Born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, Journey “Juju” Butler, faced numerous challenges from the very beginning of her life. She fought bravely, undergoing two open-heart surgeries in a short time to help her heart function properly. Journey’s heart was the worst case of HLHS her surgeon had seen in over 15 years.
Despite the difficulties, Journey was able to persevere and thrive. However, in November 2022, her tricuspid valve failed. Journey stopped doing basic things like eating and walking. Suddenly, she was faced with the prospect of a third surgery. Despite the risks, her family decided to move forward with the surgery, as her chances of surviving without it were dire. They wanted their Journey back to her happy self.
Sadly, Journey “Juju” Butler passed away on January 4th, 2023, one day before her scheduled surgery. Her passing was a devastating blow to her family, friends, and doctors and nurses who had been touched by her strength, courage, and resilience. They learned so much from their Journey.
Even in her passing, Journey’s story serves as a reminder of the power of the human spirit. Despite her struggles, she remained brave and determined, facing every obstacle with a spirit of hope and determination. Her story is an inspiration to all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her forever.
